How to Remove Caller Tune on MTN: STOP to 309, Not CANCEL to 4100
Sent Cancel and MTN still took your ₦100? One text, STOP to 309, ends every CallerTunez bundle and single tune. Here's why the old 4100 code fails.

Sent Cancel and MTN still took your money? Send STOP to 309 from the line that has the tune, and every CallerTunez bundle and single tune goes in one go, with the auto-renewal charge that keeps eating your airtime included. Most of the confusion about how to remove caller tune on MTN comes from codes that died years ago. So here's today's fix first, then the dates that explain the mess.
Today: how to remove caller tune on MTN in one text
Use the SIM with the tune on it. A text from your second line does nothing.
- Open your messages app.
- Type STOP.
- Send it to 309.
- Wait for MTN's reply.
Prices as at 18 October 2026:
| CallerTunez item | MTN price | Cover | Cost if you forget it for a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekly bundle (5 tunes) | ₦100 | 7 days | ₦5,200 (₦100 × 52) |
| Monthly bundle (5 tunes) | ₦200 | 30 days | About ₦2,400 (₦200 × 12) |
| Single tune | ₦50 or ₦100 | Depends on your plan | Charged on top of any bundle |
Look at that weekly row again. A hundred naira gone on a Monday morning barely registers, yet left alone for a year the weekly bundle costs more than double the monthly one, and most people never notice which one they picked.
Keeping one tune and dropping another
Maybe you like one tune and not the rest. Fine. For a single tune, text del and the tune code as one word, like del0123456, to the same number. For a bundle, send Del and the bundle code the same way, like D6078700007.
If typing codes is a pain, dial *309# and delete from the menu instead.
Before 2023: the CANCEL to 4100 years
Old forum threads still tell people to text CANCEL to 4100. Back then each network ran its own short codes, nothing worked across all of them, and a code copied from one forum post could easily belong to a different service entirely.
Here's the catch. That number belongs to MyTunez, a separate MTN music service you join on 441. So a CANCEL text ends MyTunez, while your CallerTunez bundle carries on renewing from your airtime every week or month as if you'd sent nothing at all. The code works. Wrong product.
May and June 2023: one stop code for every network
Then the NCC stepped in with a set of short codes that work the same way on every network, so a balance check or a stop request no longer depends on which SIM you carry. Old network codes ran alongside the new ones until 17 May 2023. After that they were switched off.
A month later the full list was out. Two of them matter here. One is 305, which stops a service. The other is 2442, Do-Not-Disturb, and people mix the pair up all the time.
Since then: *305# and the 309 line
Value added services are the paid extras on your line, things like news alerts and tunes. MTN put all of them behind *305#. Dial it, pick Active Services, and delete the one you want gone, or choose Cancel All if every paid extra should go rather than just the tune.
CallerTunez lives on its own number, 309. When you first subscribe, you send a bundle code there and MTN replies asking you to choose One-Off or Auto-Renewal. Pick Auto-Renewal once, months ago, and MTN keeps billing you until you send STOP. That's the charge you keep seeing.
Bundles and single tunes don't share a cycle either. A bundle holds five tunes that renew together. Each single tune renews on its own, so deleting just the bundle leaves a single tune charging away quietly in the background. STOP clears both.
REG, REG1 and Cancel don't unsubscribe you.
MTN also texts a reminder before a bundle expires, and that message is your last easy chance to send STOP before the next deduction lands.
Your next renewal day
After sending STOP, dial *305# and open Active Services. CallerTunez shouldn't be on the list any more. A week or a month after the last charge, which is when the next deduction would have landed, check your airtime balance with *310# and compare it with what you had.
If the airtime dropped again, check the basics first, because the STOP text has to come from the SIM with the tune and it has to say STOP, not Cancel or REG. Your single tunes also have to be gone along with the bundle.
Still being charged after all that? Call MTN on 300 or email info@mtn.ng. If MTN doesn't sort it out, take the complaint to the NCC on 622.
