DStv Starter Package ₦6,000: Yanga Moves Over, Padi May Pay More

Yanga users keep paying ₦6,000 on Starter with about eight more channels. Padi and Compact users face higher prices. Here's what to check and when to renew.

Yanga stays ₦6,000 as Starter. Padi and Compact users should check first

DStv Yanga becomes the DStv Starter package on 5 November. The price stays at ₦6,000 a month. Most people won't need to do anything, and checking your own account takes about two minutes on your phone.

Two groups should look closer. Padi subscribers face a bigger bill. If you're on Compact and your month ends just before the switch, timing your renewal well could save you a little money.

Which old package becomes the DStv Starter package

Yanga moves to Starter. Confam moves to Select at the price you already pay, Compact becomes Sports, and Compact Plus becomes Premium, so open your account after the switch and read the name it shows.

Prices below are as at 27 October 2026. Confam homes won't notice any change on the bill, because Select stays at ₦11,000, the same amount they pay today. Compact is different. It costs ₦19,000 today. Once your account turns into Sports, the payment screen will ask for ₦21,000 instead. Padi, at ₦4,400, has no match on the new list, which leaves Starter as the cheapest DStv package anyone can pick.

Until the switch, you can pay your DStv subscription on AidaPay at today's prices, and a Yanga renewal there brings ₦9 back.

Premium sits at ₦44,500 on the new list. If you're on Compact Plus, open MyDStv after the switch and pay whatever your account shows, not a figure from an old receipt or the family WhatsApp group.

For a Yanga home, Starter isn't a price cut. Same money, new name, a few extra channels.

DStv Starter channels: what Yanga didn't have

Starter carries 98+ channels, about eight more than Yanga. Football fans will spot SuperSport Kickoff first. It shows the Premier League Match of the Week and selected Champions League games, so at least once a week the trek to the viewing centre becomes optional.

Africa Magic+, M-Net Legends and National Geographic Wild also arrive. If one channel rules your house, like the Africa Magic channel your mum never misses, look it up on DStv's compare-packages page before you pay.

Padi users: the ₦4,400 package isn't on the new list

Padi is gone from the new decoder list. If your account lands on Starter, the cheapest package left, keeping the decoder on will cost more, and that stings when you're also buying data and electricity tokens.

So ask before your next renewal. Send "Hi" to DStv on WhatsApp at +234 908 236 8533. Keep your smartcard number and surname close. Then ask which package your account moves to and what you'll pay each month. A short chat now beats a nasty surprise at the payment screen.

New customers get a separate deal. For ₦15,000 you get a decoder, the full installation kit and a month of the entry package. The offer runs from 2 November to the end of February 2027.

Renew now or wait until 5 November

If you've prepaid several months, MultiChoice lets you keep your old package until they run out, and active accounts move across with no transition charge.

Yanga and Confam users can renew on their usual date. Timing changes nothing for you.

Compact needs more thought. Say your month ends a day or two before the switch. Renew then, and you'll likely keep Compact at the old price for one more month. Wait until after, and the payment screen asks for the Sports price instead, which means paying ₦2,000 more for the same decoder sitting under the same TV. MultiChoice's promise covers prepaid months, not single-month renewals. So treat that saving as likely, not guaranteed.

How to check your DStv package on *288# and pay the new one

Start with your package and due date. None of the advice above works until you know both, and the code only answers from your registered line.

  1. Dial *288# from your registered number.
  2. Choose the option that shows what you owe, and write down your package name and due date.
  3. Or sign in to MyDStv and open your account instead.
  4. After the switch, pay for your package's new name: Starter, Select or Sports.
  5. If you see E16, or the screen stays scrambled after payment, dial the same code again and pick the option to fix errors.

Most people trip up after the switch, not before. Payment apps remember last month's plan. A saved "Yanga" or "Compact" button can vanish, or quietly change price on the very screen you tap, so the shortcut that saved you time can now mislead you. Pick the plan by its new name, then match the amount to what MyDStv shows before you tap pay.

Until 5 November, payment screens still show the old package names. After that, look for Starter, Select or Sports, and read the name on screen before you confirm.

GOtv Easy, Starter, Select and Sports: prices not out yet

GOtv's tiers get new names too, from Easy at the bottom up to Sports. Their prices aren't out. Ignore any WhatsApp broadcast that swears it knows them.

Today's GOtv prices still stand. Jolli is ₦5,800 a month. Max is ₦8,500. Keep paying with your IUC number as usual, and if you renew GOtv online, read the package name on screen before you confirm.

What to do today

Dial *288# and write down your package and due date. On Padi, send that WhatsApp message this week, before the new price catches you at renewal. On Compact, with a month that ends just before the switch, renewing early should hold your old price, though nobody promises it. Everyone else can relax and pay as usual.
