DStv Compact Price Still ₦19,000: The Sports Swap Is SA Only
DStv swapped Compact for a Sports package only in South Africa. In Nigeria, Compact is still ₦19,000 a month. Here's what changes in November and how to renew safely.

No. DStv hasn't swapped Compact for a Sports package in Nigeria, because that change happened only in South Africa and your Nigerian smartcard isn't touched by it. Here, the DStv Compact price is still ₦19,000 a month.
Prices in this guide are as at 11 October 2026. Compact Plus costs ₦30,000. Premium sits at ₦44,500, and you can buy both as normal. For a second TV on the same account, the DStv Compact price with Extra View is ₦25,000 a month. That's ₦6,000 more than plain Compact. You can renew your DStv subscription on AidaPay and get ₦28.50 back on a Compact renewal.
Nigeria does have its own change coming, though. In September, MultiChoice Nigeria announced a refresh of its DStv and GOtv packages with details to follow, and DStv has promised a simpler line-up for November. So there's nothing to switch back from today. Just think twice before paying several months ahead, because a bouquet you prepay in October could carry a different name or price once November's menu lands.
What happened in South Africa: Compact became Sports at R399
On 17 September, DStv South Africa rebuilt its whole menu. Access became Starter. Family became Select, and a new Movies & Series package arrived for people who mostly watch films and shows. Compact made way for Sports, which carries the Premier League, UEFA football, UFC and WWE, and costs R399 a month on streaming. Premium kept its name.
Then came the billing trouble.
Showmax closed at the end of April. Many of its South African users had taken a year-long deal on DStv Stream Compact at R99 a month, so when Compact turned into Sports, their accounts moved across with it. Some bills went badly wrong. One customer found a R389.32 charge for a Sports subscription they didn't recognise, and another saw an account balance of R1,148. MultiChoice has since fixed the migration problems: eligible former Showmax customers keep their old price and original terms, while anyone still stuck has to go through DStv customer care.
None of that crosses the border. South Africa runs its own packages, its own billing and its own prices, all in rand, so no naira version of that Sports bouquet is waiting for you. Your Nigerian account sits on a separate price list. Compact is still on it.
If your uncle has already dropped the headline in the family WhatsApp group with three worried faces, you can calmly send him this page.
What's changing for Nigerian DStv viewers before November
Some of it started on 17 September. MultiChoice Nigeria merged its four movie channels into three: M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars and M-Net Legends. It's also adding SuperSport Kick-Off, a football channel, plus the news channel France 24.
The package refresh is the bigger story, and nobody outside MultiChoice knows what it holds yet. Compact could keep its name. It could gain channels, or its price could move up or down. The company simply hasn't published the new line-up, so until MultiChoice Nigeria announces it, treat any naira figure you see for a "new" package as a guess, however confident the person sharing it sounds.
Is Showmax still available in Nigeria?
Not as the old standalone app. Showmax content now sits on DStv Stream, the streaming service DStv runs.
Used Showmax before? Look for the "Existing User Trial Access" link on dstv.com/en-ng. Its terms aren't public yet, including how long the trial lasts, so open it and read what it offers before you assume your old plan carried over.
You'll also still see bouquet names ending in "+ Showmax". Compact + Showmax costs ₦21,250 a month. That's ₦2,250 above plain Compact, every month. With the app gone, sign in to your DStv account and see what the Showmax part still gives you before you keep paying the difference.
Check your DStv Compact price and bill before you pay
Your own account tells you exactly what you're paying for. The check takes a couple of minutes on your phone.
- Go to dstv.com/en-ng.
- Tap Sign in to MyDStv.
- Log in with your DStv details.
- Check which package name your account shows.
- Note the date your subscription is due.
- Tap Find out How to Pay if you want DStv's official payment options.
With November this close, pay for one month at a time. Three months of Compact at today's price means ₦57,000 up front. If DStv renames or reprices the package a few weeks after you pay, sorting out the leftover weeks usually means a long call to customer care, and nobody wants to spend a Saturday on hold.
Keep the receipt or payment reference from every renewal, even the small ones. It proves what you paid for and when. That matters if your bouquet changes name halfway through a paid month. Spot a package you didn't choose? Contact DStv customer care with your smartcard number and that reference, and ask them to put you back on the bouquet you paid for.
When MultiChoice Nigeria finally publishes the new names and prices, sign in to MyDStv and put them next to what you pay today. Then decide whether to stay on Compact or switch.
