How to Migrate MTN Pulse: *406*1# Now Puts You on MTN X

Why Pulse now means MTN X, and which plan costs least per minute

Dialled *406# to join Pulse and got an error, or a text welcoming you to MTN X? Here is how to migrate MTN Pulse now: Pulse has been folded into MTN X, and *406*1# joins MTN X. Calls there cost ₦15 a minute. On top of that, a daily access fee of ₦10 leaves your airtime.

If you dialled a BetaTalk code and ended up on BetaGist, the cause is the same. BetaTalk is no longer on MTN's list of plans, so its old codes now join BetaGist. The causes below run from the most common to the least, and each one shows you how to spot it, which code works and what it charges. Rates are as at 16 October 2026.

How to migrate MTN Pulse now: the code takes you to MTN X

MTN folded Pulse into MTN X. You can't go back. Pulse still appears on your account, but only as a plan you can leave, so any guide promising a route back onto it is out of date. MTN X bills your calls by the second and takes its access fee daily. You'll know you've landed there when a confirmation text names MTN X and that fee starts leaving your airtime.

Skip the short *406# from older guides. Do this instead:

  1. Check your airtime with *310#.
  2. Dial *406*1# from the line you want to move.
  3. If the code doesn't go through, text MTNX to 312.
  4. Wait for the confirmation text.

If your balance is too low for the switch, top up MTN airtime before you switch on AidaPay and get 1.8% cashback on it.

Light callers feel that daily fee most. Say you ring your mum for three minutes every evening and call nobody else all day. Those three minutes cost ₦45. Add the access fee and your whole day comes to ₦55, which is a lot of money for one short chat about whether NEPA brought light.

Heavy social media users get more out of MTN X, because the ₦750 weekly bundle gives you data plus an hour each on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Night owls get a cheap bundle for browsing after 11pm. Every bundle earns MTN X Points too.

BetaTalk code for MTN not working? It now puts you on BetaGist

BetaTalk has left MTN's list of plans, and its old page won't even load. So when you follow an old BetaTalk guide and dial *405#, or the longer *123*2*1#, MTN moves you to BetaGist instead.

BetaGist is the plan every new SIM starts on anyway. Calls cost a flat ₦19.80 a minute to all local networks. That's the highest rate among MTN's current call plans. There's a sweetener, though: talk for six minutes and MTN hands three free ones back as a promotional offer.

Those free minutes change the sum. Use all three and nine minutes of talk costs ₦118.80. Spread across the nine, that works out at roughly ₦13.20 a minute. Ignore them and you pay full price.

To join BetaGist on purpose, text BG to 312 or ask Zigi, MTN's chatbot, to switch you.

XtraSpecial *409# now turns your prepaid line into postpaid

XtraSpecial survives only as XtraSpecial Postpaid. Dial *409#, enter your BVN when it asks, and your prepaid line becomes a postpaid account.

Calls cost a flat ₦12 a minute to every Nigerian network from the first second. No daily or monthly access fee applies. New customers pay a one-time activation fee of ₦2,000. MTN gives that same amount back as a credit limit running to the end of the month.

Think before you dial. Postpaid is a credit line: you talk first and settle a bill later. That suits someone who likes one tidy monthly bill far more than someone who has bought recharge cards from the same kiosk for years and wants to keep doing it, and if the second person is you, leave *409# alone.

Already switched this month? The ₦102 or ₦150 fee

Your first migration in 30 days is free. After that, the plan you're joining sets the fee, not the plan you're leaving. Moving to MTN X or mPulse costs ₦102. BetaGist costs ₦150.

A failed request or an "insufficient balance" reply usually means your airtime sits below that fee. Top up enough to cover it, or wait for your next free switch. Count a full month from the last one to be safe.

mPulse is only for ages 9 to 15

mPulse is for prepaid customers aged nine to fifteen, so a SIM registered to an adult's NIN won't qualify however many times you dial.

For your child's line, dial *344*1#. The longer *123*2*3# works too, and so does Other Plans > mPulse in the myMTN app. Calls cost ₦12 a minute. For homework, the monthly education data plan costs ₦600.

XtraValue has no migration code at all

People hunt for a code to migrate from MTN Pulse to XtraValue. There isn't one.

Five ways out of old MTN Pulse codes — and what each one costs per minute.

Buying an XtraValue bundle moves your line across by itself, with no migration fee. Dial *312*5# and pick a bundle. XtraTalk leans towards call time while XtraData leans towards data, and both come in weekly and monthly sizes you can also buy in the myMTN app. Calls inside these bundles cost ₦10.80 a minute. That beats mPulse and postpaid, beats MTN X before its daily fee is even counted, and still beats BetaGist after the bonus minutes.

For an adult on prepaid whose airtime goes mostly on calls, try XtraValue first.

Still stuck? Check your plan, then call 300

Open the myMTN app first. It shows the plan you're on right now, tells you whether the switch went through and lets you migrate again from the same screen.

Zigi, MTN's chatbot, comes next. If Zigi can't fix it, call MTN customer care on 300 from the affected line. Tell the agent your old plan, the code you dialled and the reply you got.

Before you try again, make sure your airtime covers any fee, and keep the full list of MTN USSD codes close so you can check your balance afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

What is the code to migrate to MTN Pulse now?
Dial *406*1#, or text MTNX to 312. Pulse has been folded into MTN X, so either route puts you on MTN X, which charges a ₦10 daily access fee.
Can I still move from MTN Pulse to BetaTalk?
No. BetaTalk is no longer on MTN's list of plans, and its old codes, *123*2*1# and *405#, now move you to BetaGist. There you get three free minutes back for every six minutes of local calls.
Is migration to MTN Pulse free?
Your first migration in 30 days is free. After that, the plan you're joining sets the fee: ₦102 for MTN X or mPulse and ₦150 for BetaGist. Count a full 30 days from your last switch before you expect another free one.
Which MTN tariff plan is cheapest for calls?
XtraValue bundles give an adult on prepaid the lowest call rate, at ₦10.80 a minute. You join by buying a bundle with *312*5#, and there's no migration fee.
How do I move from MTN Pulse to XtraValue?
XtraValue has no migration code. Dial *312*5# and buy a bundle, and your line moves across by itself with no migration fee. The myMTN app sells the same bundles.
Why can't I migrate back to MTN Pulse?
MTN folded Pulse into MTN X, so Pulse now shows up only as a plan you can leave, never one you can join. Dialling *406*1# puts you on MTN X instead. If even that request fails, your airtime is probably below the ₦102 fee for a second switch inside 30 days.
