No bundle went up. MTN added router plans; Glo still wins on phones

Data prices in Nigeria did not go up this month. As at 1 November 2026, every MTN, Airtel and Glo bundle on AidaPay costs what it cost in October.

The cheapest capped monthly gigabyte now comes from MTN's Ruby plan, at about ₦170. What changed is the menu, because twelve plans are new, three are gone, and most of the newcomers are MTN bundles made for routers and MiFi, not phones. On phones, Glo still gives you the most data for your money.

What changed in data prices in Nigeria: 12 new plans, 3 removed

None of these changes pushed a price up. They only change what you can pick from.

Most of November's new data plans are built for routers and MiFi, not phones.

New MTN router and MiFi plans: ₦8,865 to ₦44,325

Most of the new plans are MTN bundles built for a router, a MiFi or a house full of phones that all share one connection once everyone gets home in the evening. Capped router bundles start at ₦8,865. On AidaPay, ₦44.33 of that comes back to you.

At the top end sits MTN's Unlimited ODU plan, priced at ₦44,325 a month. ODU stands for outdoor unit: the antenna box mounted on the outside of your house. Ruby costs exactly the same, and either plan gives you ₦221.63 back.

So which one should you take? Ruby stops at 260GB. MTN sells the ODU plan as unlimited with no stated cap, so it's the better buy if an outdoor unit already sits on your wall. On an ordinary router or MiFi, Ruby gives you the cheaper capped gigabyte. The catch is the lump sum. Few homes have that much spare at the start of the month, so Ruby suits a busy household or a small office far better than someone topping up one phone.

Plans that left the list

MTN dropped its 1GB monthly Data Transfer plan. The 5GB version went too. Airtel's 2GB AWUF bundle has also gone. Plan names on the list look so alike that it's easy to tap the wrong one in a hurry, so check the size and the number of days before you pay.

Nobody pays more: who should switch network anyway

Your usual phone plan costs what it cost in October, and that includes Airtel, so there's no reason to panic-buy months of data ahead of a hike that hasn't come.

Switching network saves you more than waiting ever will. Glo's monthly AWUF plan costs less than Airtel's monthly plan and still gives you more data. If your phone has a spare SIM slot, keep a Glo line just for data while friends and family keep calling the number they already know.

Before you switch, compare the two plans properly. It takes about a minute:

  1. Note the price and the data size of each plan.
  2. Divide the price by the gigabytes to see what one gigabyte costs you.
  3. Check how many days each plan lasts.
  4. Pick the cheapest gigabyte that lasts as long as you need it.

Run that sum on the two monthly plans and the gap shows up straight away. Glo's AWUF plan holds 10.5GB. That works out at about ₦273 a gigabyte. On Airtel's monthly plan, the same sum lands at roughly ₦371. Both last a month, so Glo wins.

Short-term data works differently. Glo sells the cheapest single gigabyte, but it lasts only three days, while MTN's costs a little more and runs for a full week. Airtel's is gone after one day. If you only need data to send a CV on Tuesday, the Glo gig does the job; if it has to last till Sunday, pay the MTN extra.

Moving off a removed MTN plan is simple. Anyone on the old small plan can take the monthly Data Transfer plan instead and get double the data. For the bigger one, the closest match is a monthly MTN bundle that adds all-night streaming on top of the main data.

How Price Watch works: the figures above are AidaPay's public prices, read from the live catalogue on 1 November 2026 (the same prices as aidapay.ng/pricing), and compared with the first reading of the month before. Cost per GB is the plan price divided by its data allowance; social-only, router and unlimited plans are left out. Cashback is paid on top of these prices. Network prices change without notice, so check the price in the app before you pay.

What to buy this November, by kind of user

Pick by how you use data, not by the biggest number on the screen. Every price below comes with the cashback you get on AidaPay.

Light user and student: under ₦1,000

Glo's three-day gigabyte costs ₦350. You get ₦1.75 back. On a tight week, when sapa has arrived early and payday still feels far away, it keeps WhatsApp going for less money than anything else here.

MTN's weekly gigabyte costs ₦400. Only ₦4 comes back, but the bundle carries you to the same day next week, which suits anyone who only tops up on Mondays.

Heavy phone user: the cheapest monthly data plan

Glo's monthly AWUF plan is the value pick, and you can buy Glo AWUF data for your own line or someone else's. Stay on Airtel's monthly 8GB plan if carrying a second SIM sounds like too much wahala.

MTN's big one is the 20GB Weekly AWUF. It costs ₦4,925. You get ₦29.55 back. It lasts only a week, though, and buying it every single week turns a decent bundle into an expensive month faster than you'd expect. Save it for exam revision, or for a trip home where NEPA takes light and your phone becomes the family television. For everyday top-ups, use the MTN data transfer plans instead.

Home internet: router or MiFi

Check what your router used last month before you choose. MTN's new capped bundles come in three sizes, and the bigger ones cost less per gigabyte. The largest holds 120GB. It costs ₦23,640. You get ₦118.20 back as cashback. If your house got through about a hundred gigs last month, that bundle covers it for far less than Ruby, which only wins when you'll use most of its cap.

If you own an outdoor unit, compare the unlimited ODU plans first.

Prices can shift, so before you pay for a big bundle, open the data price tracker, which keeps current MTN, Airtel and Glo prices in one place. Every plan sits on one page in the full AidaPay price list.

Frequently asked questions

Did data prices in Nigeria go up in November?
No. As at 1 November 2026, no MTN, Airtel or Glo bundle costs more than it did in October. Twelve plans are new, mostly MTN router and MiFi bundles, and three came off the list.
Which network has the cheapest data in Nigeria?
Glo leads on phone bundles. Its monthly AWUF plan works out at about ₦273 a gigabyte. Among capped monthly plans, MTN's Ruby is lowest at about ₦170 a gigabyte, though you pay for the whole month at once.
Will data prices rise again before December?
Nobody can promise either way. The NCC approved a tariff adjustment in January 2025, and the networks need its approval for any new one. Any change shows up on the data price tracker once it lands.
How can I beat a data price increase?
Compare the price of one gigabyte, not the price on the button. Divide the price by the gigabytes, check how long the plan lasts, and buy one that matches how long you need it. A Glo line kept just for data costs less than Airtel's monthly plan and gives you more.
How much is data for a month?
Glo's monthly AWUF plan costs ₦2,865, and you get ₦28.65 back. Airtel's monthly 8GB plan costs ₦2,965. That one returns ₦15. On MTN, the monthly 2GB Data Transfer costs ₦950, with ₦9.50 back. Prices are as at 1 November 2026.
How much does MTN unlimited data cost?
Unlimited ODU 100Mbps costs ₦44,325 a month, the same as Ruby. You get ₦221.63 back. It's for an outdoor unit, the antenna box mounted outside your house, and it's the better buy if you already own one. Regular router and MiFi users can start with the capped bundles from ₦8,865.
Is data expensive in Nigeria?
It depends more on the plan you pick than on the network. Glo's monthly AWUF plan works out at about ₦273 a gigabyte. Airtel's monthly plan is closer to ₦371, so divide the price by the gigabytes before you pay.
