Cheapest data per GB and TV prices, refreshed every month

Data price tracker Nigeria: where the figures come from and when they update

Trust the date printed on each table. Every table carries its own "prices as at" line, so you can tell how fresh the figures are before you pick a plan. They're AidaPay's public prices, checked against the list prices on each network's and TV provider's official plan pages.

Networks repackage bundles often, which is why the guide below shows you how to judge any bundle yourself.

How Price Watch works: the figures above are AidaPay's public prices, read from the live catalogue on 1 November 2026 (the same prices as aidapay.ng/pricing), and compared with the first reading of the month before. Cost per GB is the plan price divided by its data allowance; social-only, router and unlimited plans are left out. Cashback is paid on top of these prices. Network prices change without notice, so check the price in the app before you pay.

Every plan in the tables is on AidaPay's current data and bill prices list, and you'll see the cashback on each one before you pay.

How to read cost per GB without a calculator

Divide the price by the number of gigabytes. That's it. One sum puts a 1-day bundle and a 30-day bundle on the same scale, however different their sticker prices look.

Diagram showing how to work out cost per gigabyte for two data bundles and compare them
Same sum, any bundle: price divided by GB tells you the true cost, not the sticker price.

The worked example: two bundles, one sum

Say bundle A costs X naira for Y GB. Bundle B costs 2X, double the price, but carries three times the data: 3Y.

  1. Work out A: X ÷ Y.
  2. Work out B: 2X ÷ 3Y. That comes to two-thirds of A's figure.
  3. Compare the two answers, not the sticker prices.

So B costs a third less per gigabyte, even though it looks dearer at checkout. Plans sold in megabytes need one more step: divide the MB by 1,024 to get GB. Some bundles count 1,000MB to the GB instead. The gap stays under 3%, too small to change which plan wins.

In the tables, the per GB column already holds the answer, with validity right beside it.

Cost per day of cover: the second number that matters

Cheap gigabytes mean nothing if they expire first. Check a second figure as well: the price divided by the days the plan lasts, because a one-day bundle that's cheap per GB can still cost more per day than a monthly plan you stretch across four weeks. Cost per GB tells you how much data your money buys. Cost per day tells you how long it keeps you online.

Why 30-day plans usually cost less per GB, and when they don't

Monthly plans usually win on cost per GB. You pay up front for a whole month, so networks price the bigger, longer bundles lower. Here's the catch. The saving only reaches you if you finish the data; use half a monthly plan, let the rest expire, and your real cost per GB doubles.

Rollover rules differ by network and plan, so read the terms for your exact plan in your network's app before you count on keeping leftovers.

Light users often do better on a weekly plan. If you mostly chat on WhatsApp, a small bundle you finish beats a big one that expires half full. Stream on the bus home every evening, though, and the monthly plan usually wins.

Why the cheapest data bundle can cost you more

Not every bundle in the tables is the same kind of data. On paper, the cheapest data plan in Nigeria is often one of four types that look cheaper than they are. Read the plan name first.

Social bundles (WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube) only work in those apps

As at 1 November 2026, MTN sells WhatsApp, Facebook and 'Social Plan' packages, each billed for one app only, alongside general bundles that carry a YouTube or YouTube Music bonus. App-only data won't open a website or download a file. Compare its per-GB figure with other social bundles only.

Night data and plans without a night allowance

Some bundles split their headline total into all-day data and a night allowance that works only in set late-night hours. Sleep through those hours and that slice is worth nothing. If you want a Glo data plan without night plan, compare the all-day figure in the tables, not the headline total.

AWUF and short bundles: lots of GB, little time

MTN AWUF bundles come in 1-day, 2-day and 7-day sizes, as at 1 November 2026. The cost per GB looks wonderful. Then the hours run out, the unused data goes with them, and you see why these bundles suit one heavy day of downloads rather than a normal week of light browsing.

Data Transfer (SME) and router plans are not like-for-like

Data Transfer is the newer name for what many people still call SME data, and MTN sells it in 7-day and 30-day sizes as at 1 November 2026. Direct gifting is different. It sends a normal network bundle straight to the number. Before you buy either, read what SME (Data Transfer) data actually is.

Router and MiFi plans sell speed caps or unlimited use for a home device rather than phone data, so you won't find them listed per GB in the tables.

How to pay less for data and TV every month

Five habits cut your data and TV spend without changing network or bouquet.

  1. Buy the validity you'll actually use, not the biggest bundle on the list.
  2. Check your balance a few days before expiry with the data balance codes for every network, so you learn whether you overbought.
  3. Check the price in the app on the day you buy. Networks can change list prices mid-month, and the tables refresh only at the start of the month.
  4. Look at the cashback line before you pay on AidaPay. It shows the exact amount you'll get back on that plan.
  5. Renew DStv, GOtv or StarTimes before the due date, so your screen doesn't go blank in the middle of the match.

Planning to drop to a cheaper TV bouquet? Check on your provider's official page whether the change applies now or at renewal. If a data plan keeps renewing itself from your airtime, turn auto-renewal off in your network's menu.

Where the monthly "what changed" posts live

At the start of each month, a short post records what moved since the last snapshot: new plans, plans that disappeared, and price changes. Each one links back here. Find them all in the Articles section at aidapay.ng/articles, then bookmark this page so next month's numbers are waiting for you.

Frequently asked questions

Which network has the cheapest data plan in Nigeria right now?
It changes from month to month, so read the cheapest per GB row in the tables on this page. Check the validity beside it too. A cheap gigabyte you can't finish before it expires isn't cheap at all.
Why did data prices go up in Nigeria?
The NCC approved a tariff adjustment for telecom operators in January 2025, and the networks raised and repackaged their bundles after it. Bundles still get renamed, resized and dropped during the year, which is why this page refreshes monthly.
How do I check data prices myself?
Open your network's app or data menu, or look at the plan pages on the network's website. Any app you buy from should show the price, and the cashback where there is one, before you confirm.
How often is this price tracker updated?
Every table refreshes at the start of the month and shows its own prices-as-at date. A short what-changed post goes up at the same time and links back here.
Is a monthly data plan always cheaper than daily or weekly?
Per GB, usually yes. It stops being cheaper when part of it expires unused, so a light user can spend less overall on a weekly plan they actually finish.
Is social bundle data cheaper than normal data?
Its per-GB figure often looks lower, but WhatsApp, Facebook or YouTube-only data works only in that app and won't open a website. Compare it with other social bundles, and use the general data rows for everything else.
